Assessment methods

Recent years' development in admission to TEK has led to more students and thus larger classes.

The forms of examination/methods of assessment we have used up to now are perhaps no longer suitable for these large classes for financial reasons and due to the amount of time they take. Furthermore, current practice for exams is being developed in line with the increased digitalization and general development.

When talking about exams at TEK, three basic forms are distinguished:

1_100Oral exam

2_100Written exam

3_100

Practical exam

Within each type of exam, there can be a variety of methods. The VUE toolbox WWW_100provides examples of different examination methods. The plan is to build a TEK toolbox will be regularly expanded/updated, among others on the basis of input for TEK's teachers!

Mail_100Suggestions for new exam methods can be sent to Jørgen Bro Røn.

In DSMI, evaluation of the students’ work forms an integrated part of the SDU’s principles of ‘Active learning and activating teaching’ (cf. DSMI section 3.3), and is used to support the student’s active learning. Reducing the amount of resources consumed during examinations/assessments must, of course, not be at the expense of the exam and the principles of DSMI

In connection with the Development project "Assessment methods", the project group has prepared a recommendation for the SL/Education program committee:

PDF_100Examination types/methods of assessment - Guidance to SL/Education program committee

PDF_100Examination types/methods of assessment - Appendix for Examination types/methods of assessment (available only in Danish)

And a guide for the teachers when working with exam methods within the individual exam forms.

In the spring of 2019, two selected programs, BYG and Megatronics, will work with an analysis of "Exam forms" on the respective programs. The analysis should give the program an overview of current practice and will result in a (possibly) restructuring of the education's exam practice. In the fall of 2019, the two programs  teachers will implement exam methods that support the strategic choices of the study programs

The rest of TEK's programs will undergo the same process in autumn 2019 based on the experience gained from the two pilot projects.

The project group "Assessment methods" had the following members: Charlotte Pedersen, ITI, Karsten Lund, ITI, Lars Duggen, MCI, Lotte Dyhrberg O'Neill, SDUUP, Ole Lund Christiansen, ITI, Steffen Kjær Johansen, ITI, og Jørgen Røn, TEK Uddannelse
